I’m definitely more of a melody girl. Every now and then I’ll have a lyric or title in my notes app, but I typically like to build out a track or find a chord progression I like on guitar and noodle with it until I have a vibe I like. From there, the lyrics just magically fit in like little puzzle pieces.

So that songwriting camp was actually my first time ever doing a camp like that! It was such a treat for me & I have a newfound love for writing in that sort of environment. I think my favorite part about it was getting to work with a room of all new collaborators – it felt really fresh & inspiring. It’s also really special to get to hear everyone else’s work at the end of the day. It’s like the best show-and-tell you’ve ever been to.

I have officially moved to LA which is incredibly exciting and also very daunting. Nashville was my home for so many years & it’s where I found my sound & people & identity as an artist. After taking a few trips out here, I felt ready to take the leap and move. Every music city has a different energy, and I was just feeling like I was ready to be pushed creatively in a different way. Out here I’m surrounded by so many creatives beyond just music, that I’ve been feeling very inspired in terms of world-building – style, visuals, things like that.
WHEN YOU’RE WRITING AND ARRANGING A SONG IN THE STUDIO, ARE YOU ALREADY CHOREOGRAPHING THE LIVE STAGE EXPERIENCE IN YOUR HEAD AND HOW DO YOU TRANSLATE THAT STUDIO ARRANGEMENT INTO A LIVE MOMENT?
YES! It’s very common to see me choreographing in the writing room or already dreaming up live arrangements. Since I usually perform with my Lovergirls on stage, it gives me a lot of freedom for choreography and performance. We can turn lyrics into a call & response or otherwise create onstage moments between us that I can’t have when I’m alone in a studio.

It’s important for me to do what I can to uplift my community. Hiring other queer people & women is my favorite way to put my money where my mouth is!

I have the best fans ever. They are hilarious and kind and are always checking in with me on socials. I pay very close attention to the types of songs they gravitate towards, the other artists they like, and what types of videos they get the most out of. They truly are the reason I have the career I have, so I think it’s important to give the people what they want, if you will!

The advantage really is the peace of mind in knowing that Songtrust is amazing at their job.
