What is a Personal Publishing Entity?

As a songwriter, you are your own publisher on any works you’ve written. As a publisher, you may want to set up your own publishing entity with your PRO. A “personal publishing entity” is just a name you assign to the publishing “company” you already “own” as a publisher of your works, and affiliate with your PRO just like you affiliate yourself as a writer. What Are Counterclaims And What Do I Do If I Have One?

A frequently asked question we get is about conflicting claims (also known as counterclaims or duplicate claims) which occur when there is a miscommunication between co-writers and/or publishers about the correct songwriting splits and/or ownership. As a result of this dispute, the registered song has unclear, differing claims that often add up to more than the required 100% total shares.

Switching Your Performing Rights Organization: What To Consider

DISCLAIMER: Before you even consider this, please know this is a very major decision.

It may have extremely adverse effects on your payments (and your cash flow) from the society for years to come.

When switching to a new PRO, you will almost certainly lose money and you may not earn as much money at your new PRO depending on what kind of performances you are receiving. TV, Film, Ads, Trailers, Video Games, etc..). In my experience, sync is an art form that can add a dynamic layer to an artist’s story while also providing a significant revenue stream.
