A Lifelong Advocate for Women in Music, Neuman Wants To Empower Women and Marginalized Communities By Working To Model The Behavior We Need To See in Music

Today, Billboard published its annual Women In Music List, with Songtrust President, Molly Neuman, being honored on the list for the second year in a row. The list also includes Jumee Park, SVP of Film/TV Music at Downtown Music Publishing, as well as Michele Nadelman, CFO of Warner Records, and Elizabeth Matthews, CEO of ASCAP. It showcases the women who play a critical role in shaping the future of music across publishing, record labels, artist development, touring, and more.

Neuman, who has been an instrumental advocate for independent music as well as diversity, equity, and inclusion within music for decades, wants to see continued work towards improving the representation of women across music, especially within leadership roles.

When asked about how to best help other women inside and outside of music, Neuman said, “model the behavior you want to see, learn from missteps that the industry and we as individuals have made, and most importantly - commit to change. We can’t effectively help women if we don’t have a plan to create tangible and measurable change, and that begins with making the commitment.”

Since joining Songtrust in December 2017 as Global Head of Business Development, Neuman has led the company to record years of growth in 2018, 2019, and 2020. In 2020, Songtrust’s revenue has nearly doubled year-over-year, a reflection of its expanding global royalty collections. In addition, Songtrust has accelerated its 2020 client growth by more than 110% compared to 2019. The company’s expansion is powered by Songtrust’s broadening capabilities in collecting music publishing royalties around the world, and empowering music rights holders of all levels to retain their creative and business autonomy should they choose to.

As President, Molly leads Songtrust’s expansion and development, overseeing every department in the company including partner relations and income tracking, rights management, technology, client relations, and business operations. The company now collects royalties from more than 215 countries and territories around the world, from more than 50 pay sources including PROs, CMOs, DSPs, and more. In addition, Songtrust continues to expand its Income Tracking capabilities ensuring that all music usage statements for its clients are accurate, enabling Songtrust clients to get paid in full for all the usage of their music around the world.

In addition to her work at Songtrust, Neuman is also on the Advisory Boards of Music Business Association, Women in Music, and previously served on the boards of SoundExchange and A2IM.
